2021 has been an eventful year for Tennessee Schools for the Deaf. Read about TSD's Class of 2021 graduates, TSD's new Superintendent, outreach across the state, newest updates in Student Life, and more in the Tennessee Observer Spring/Summer 2021 Newsletter.

ASL classes for TSD Knoxville parents and families will begin October 11th! Classes are currently virtual due to COVID-19. ASL classes are also open to families enrolled in the Deaf Mentor Program and TSD-K Toddler Learning Class. For questions please contact ASL Services, [email protected]. There have been some changes to TSD's football and volleyball schedules. Please contact Rene' Skelton, Interim. Athletic Director, if you have any questions. Go Vikings!

Dr. Sandra Edwards has been selected as the next Superintendent of Tennessee Schools for the Deaf.

The search for the next TSD Superintendent began in early March 2021 which produced three finalists, and they were evaluated by a search committee of teachers, staff, parents, community members, and alumni with representation from all three TSD campuses (Knoxville, Nashville, and Jackson). Dr. Josh Mason, Assistant Commissioner of State Special Schools at the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), accepted the search committee’s unanimous recommendation of Dr. Sandra Edwards as the next Superintendent of TSD on Monday, July 19, 2021. As a district, TSD is at a juncture at which we need your input towards ESSER 3.0 funding. Summer break is not the easiest time to connect with our families and community members, but we are asking for your feedback! Thank you for supporting TSD.
