The Deaf Mentor and Parent Advisor Program at Tennessee Schools for the Deaf (TSD) supports families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, from birth to age five. Our certified providers are work with families to strengthen communication, build connections, and empower both parents and children.
 
Deaf Mentors focus on American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture, visual communication, and community connections while serving as a language model for your family and a role model for your child.
Parent Advisors support families in creating a language-rich environment, using listening and spoken English strategies, preparing for PreK, and bridging the gap between Deaf and hearing cultures.
 
Together, Deaf Mentors and Parent Advisors collaborate to give families the best of both worlds.  
All providers are highly trained professionals use the evidence-based
SKI*HI model to guide families in fostering their child's growth and success.
