The Tennessee Department of Education commissioned two groups from the American School for the Deaf (ASD) and Conference of Education Administrators for Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) to conduct a program review to assess program quality, viability, and facilitate appropriate program improvement.
The purpose of the review will be to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the current education program at Tennessee’s three Schools for the Deaf (Tennessee School for the Deaf - Knoxville, Tennessee School for the Deaf - Nashville, and West Tennessee School for the Deaf Jackson) and reporting findings and recommendations for improving instructional programs. Specifically, each contractor will compare instructional delivery models at each campus against national models of excellence for serving deaf and hard of hearing students. Additionally, each contractor will evaluate language development practices at each campus and compare data from peers nationally to identify effective and ineffective practices for developing language and preparing students for matriculation, post-secondary education, and employment. Finally, each contractor will evaluate leadership effectiveness and organizational structures to determine how effectively and efficiently TSD leadership supports student achievement.
The review teams will be hosting meetings with parents at each of TSD’s campuses. You are invited and welcome to join these meetings to provide your thoughts, perspectives, and comments about your relationship with TSD’s campus.
If you are not able to participate in the meeting, you are also welcome to fill out the Google Form online or fill out the paper survey attached by May 21, 2021. If you fill out the paper survey, you can scan it and email it to [email protected] or mail it to:
