TSD students requested a Town Hall Meeting with its administration because they wanted to discuss new rules to help make out school better. We discussed new rules with Mrs. Alexander, Mr. Farmer, Mrs. Heidelberg, Mr. Battle, and Mrs. West. We chose four new rules to discuss: cell phones/sidekicks/pagers, going off campus around Island Home, alternative for REC activity, and buying sodas and snacks from vending machine.
Mrs. Alexander said that, you can bring cell phones, sidekicks, or pagers to school and leave them in the principal’s office during school hours. If you have an emergency to call your parents, you can go to principal’s office to contact your parents to let them know. During sports, you can bring your devices to the events, but can’t take them in your bedroom because someone might use your device without permission.
We discussed about going off campus around Island Home during P.E. classes, REC, and trick or treating. We want to know and socialize with Island Home neighbors. Also, we can use playground, tennis court, or walking in the park that is near the Tennessee River. We also discussed having alternative activities like if you don’t want to go REC at night and want to watch TV, REC will have a TV, billiards (pool), foosball, and table tennis (ping-pong) to play for fun.
Finally, the last new rule discussed was about buying sodas and snacks from vending machines. Mrs. Alexander said that she needed to look into Federal Laws before anything could be set up during school. But during in REC time in the evening at SUB, Mr. Farmer said that we will look into a way for students to purchase snacks, and possibly have things like a smoothie machine and popcorn machine. Student Council members will discuss with Mr. Lee and Mr. Whitson about adding new meals during lunchtime at the Dining Hall.
These were the four rules that would help make you more comfortable and better for our school and for all TSD students, teachers, and staff.
