POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT YOUTH SERVICE WORKER SUPERVISOR I
DESCRIPTION: Cottage Supervisor/Youth Service Worker Supervisor is under the supervision of a
Dean of Students. The cottage supervisor is responsible for programming, facility, equipment/supplies,
staff and students assigned to a particular cottage.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: The cottage supervisor is the highest level of management providing full-
time, direct supervision to students. Cottage supervisors are expected to provide positive leadership; team
with other supervisors, subordinates and super ordinates; provide on-the-job training, prepare reports, keep
records, evaluate programs and staff; conduct meetings, interface with parents, manage students with
multiple disabilities, ensure implementation of the Individual Program Plan, and other related duties. Work
37.5/40 hours per week during evenings and weekends; transport students in a motor vehicle. Perform
other duties as assigned. May be required to live on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and
experience equivalent to two years of full-time youth service work in a residential setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of current methods and techniques used in the
care and supervision of special youth or children; good knowledge of the principles and practices of
supervision; teamwork, and staff training; ability to write objective, thorough reports; to motivate and lead
a team; strong interpersonal and counseling skills; must be fluent in sign language at the level established
for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated
by an appropriate assessment tool after training; a good working knowledge of child development and
behavior management. A valid State of Tennessee Driver's License and a clean record are required.
STARTING SALARY AND BENEFITS: Begins at $2,049 per month for eleven months. On campus living available, medical insurance, retirement, longevity bonus.
