POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
YOUTH SERVICE WORKER II

DESCRIPTION: Cottage Assistant Supervisor/Youth Service Worker II is under the supervision of a Cottage Supervisor/Youth Service Worker Supervisor 1. The Youth Service Worker II is responsible for youth service work of average difficulty in the supervision, observation and security of students and leads other workers and performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:This is the lead class in the Youth Service Worker sub-series. An employee in this class is assigned to work at TSD in the Student Living Department providing student supervision and may assume some of the responsibilities of the Youth Service Supervisor I during absences. This class differs from that of Youth Service Worker I in that an incumbent of the latter is not responsible for lead-level duties. This class differs from that of Youth Service Supervisor I in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for full supervisory duties.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads others in performing work of youth service workers, such as maintaining supervision of students and performing the duties as assisting with staff schedules and supply requisitioning. Works 37.5/40 hours per week during evenings and weekends. Counsels students and checks residences for cleanliness. Instructs students on personal hygiene and resident chores. Enforces rules and regulations. Prepares a variety of records and reports, such as daily logs, maintenance requests, monthly progress reports, and disciplinary action reports. May provide input on transferring students to other residence. May assist with the implementation of the Individual Program Plan. Chaperones students on trips as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. May be required to live on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to one year of full-time youth service work in a residential school. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures pertinent to youth service work; some knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision. Applicant must be fluent in sign language at the level established for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool after training. A valid Tennessee driver's license and a clean record are required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $1,885 per month for 10 months, medical insurance, retirement, longevity bonus.
