POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Teacher
Under the supervision of the Director of Instruction and the Principal of the Department, the teacher is responsible for performing duties in the following areas:
INSTRUCTION: Establishes appropriate instruction goals and related objectives consistent with the curriculum of TSD, prepares instructional plans and materials incorporating principles of effective instruction, creates, selects, or modifies plans and materials to accommodate learner differences.
TEACHING STRATEGIES: Provides a clear description of the learning task and its content, monitors learner understanding and re-teaches as necessary, provides learners appropriate practice and reviews, and establishes and maintains learner involvement in the learning task.
EVALUATION: Uses information about learner performance to improve the instructional process, reports learner status and progress to learners and their parents.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT: Establishes and maintains appropriate learner behavior, establishes and maintains appropriate behavior, establishes and maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning, makes effective use of classroom resources, and follows TSD Discipline Policy and Rules.
LEADERSHIP: Improves professional skills and knowledge takes a leadership role in improving education, and performs professional responsibilities.
COMMUNICATION: Uses correct grammar, written and oral communication is organized and clearly stated. Applicant must become efficient in sign language at the level established for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool. Training will be provided.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education
- Tennessee Teacher License with NCLB Qualified status, preference given to candidates who also have an endorsement in deafness K-12
- Tennessee Driver's License and clean driving record is required.
SALARY: $32,954 to $55,855 (depending on degree and years of service)
The applicant selected for this position will be fingerprinted and required to have a TBI/FBI background check. In addition, background checks will be conducted through the Tennessee Registry of Sexual Offenders, Tennessee Registry of Abusers, and the Tennessee Child Protective Services Background Check.
