POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
SS ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY/INTERPRETER

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Admin Secretary/Interpreter is responsible for secretarial work of significant difficulty, and performs related work as required by the superintendent. This position is also responsible for interpreting as needed.

Example of duties:

  1. Reviews and distributes mail.
  2. Routine typing as assigned.
  3. Provides a variety of routine clerical operations such as filing, ordering supplies, answering the phone, scheduling appointments, and keeping routine time and attendance records.
  4. Operates and/or utilizes office machines/equipment, such as calculator, copy machine, FAX machine, computer, and VP.
  5. Other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
  6. Acts as secretarial mentor to other secretaries within the organization.
  7. May be required to mentor a Tennessee School for the Deaf student in the TSD Work Based Learning Program.

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to Bachelor of Arts degree and 7-10 years of experience in community and educational interpreting as well as two years of increasingly responsible full-time secretarial or office clerical work.

Qualifications:

  • American Sign Language Interpreter with RID or equivalent state certification
  • Possesses near fluency in receptive sign language skills and knowledge of Deaf culture
  • Maintain strict adherence to Interpreter Code of Ethics
  • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures required.
  • Must meet sign language proficiency established by ASLPI (level IV). Be prepared to interpret conversations for the Superintendent.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs: Word and Excel.

Salary and Benefits: $2,511 - $4,019 per month (12-month position)

The applicant selected for this position will be fingerprinted and required to have a TBI/FBI background check. In addition, background checks will be conducted through the Tenn. Registry of Sexual Offenders, Tenn. Registry of Abusers, and the Tenn. Child Protective Services Background Check.
