POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
 
GROUNDS WORKER 2 NE

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the employee will perform semi-skilled grounds maintenance work of average difficulty, and performs building maintenance work as required by the supervisors.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:(other duties discussed at interview)
  1. Mows grass, uses trimmer/leaf blowers, trims shrubs, and trees (non-detailed)
  2. Repairs/constructs sidewalks, catch basins, drainage ditches, fences, etc.
  3. Applies herbicides, fertilizers, etc. - as needed.
  4. Plants trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.
  5. Applies mulch, sand, rock, etc. to areas.
  6. Operate a pick-up truck, Cushman, and other state owned vehicles both on and off campus. A VALID TN DRIVER’S LICENSE IS REQUIRED.
  7. Will keep simple records and make routine reports to the supervisor either verbally or in writing.
  8. Operates a variety of motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  9. Will perform routine maintenance on buildings as required by supervisor.
  10. May be assigned helpers to assist in work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid State of Tennessee License is required when driving on campus either in a state vehicle or a personal vehicle. One full year of experience in grounds maintenance work is required. Must be able to follow both oral and written directions in order to complete tasks successfully. Should have knowledge of all safety rules pertaining to grounds maintenance work and building maintenance work.
 
The applicant selected for this position will be fingerprinted and required to have a TBI/FBI background check. In addition, background checks will be conducted through the Tennessee Registry of Sexual Offenses, the Tennessee Registry of Abuses, and the Tennessee Child Protective Services Background Check. Some knowledge of grounds maintenance work. Also required is some knowledge of reading/writing/math - sufficient to read memos and instruction manuals, mix chemicals, etc., and the ability to perform building maintenance work as required by the supervisors. Applicants must become proficient in sign language at the level established for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool. Training will be provided.
As part of your duties, you may be required to mentor a TSD student in the TSD Work Based Learning Program.
 
STARTING SALARY/BENEFITS: : $1,875- $2,999 monthly for 12 months. The state makes available to the employee: medical insurance, retirement (401K availability), annual and sick leave, and longevity bonus.
