POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
CUSTODIAL WORKER 1 NE

SUMMARY
Performs custodial work of routine difficulty and related work as required by Supervisor. Overtime or work schedule adjustment may be required due to special events happening on campus.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  1. Operates various custodial equipment and does general custodial work in classrooms, offices, and other buildings on campus. Tasks may include the following: dusts, dust mops, sweeps, mops, cleans and disinfects restrooms, empties trash into proper containers outside, cleans windows/blinds (may need to climb ladders), vacuums, cleans carpets with carpet extractor, strips wax off tile floors and waxes floors, etc.
  2. Must be able to change tasks at a moment’s notice without complaints due to building needs, workshops, staff absences, etc.
  3. Some heavy lifting required such as moving furniture for cleaning or setting up workshops or relocating staff.
  4. Makes routine reports to Supervisor regarding cleaning problems or requesting additional cleaning supplies needed for building.
  5. Must be able to follow oral directions and complete tasks correctly in required time frame stated by Supervisor.
  6. As part of your duties, you may be required to mentor a TSD student in the TSD Work Based Learning Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License is required. High School or GED diploma preferred. One year of custodial experience preferred. Must have knowledge of basic reading and math skills sufficient to mix chemicals correctly and to read memos/newsletters/etc.

Applicant must become proficient in sign language at the level established for this position within the Tennessee School for the Deaf Sign Communication Program as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool. Training will be provided. The applicant selected for this position will be fingerprinted and required to have a TBI/FBI background check. In addition, background checks will be conducted through the Tenn. Registry of Sexual Offenders, the Tenn. Registry of Abuses, and the Tenn. Child Protective Services Background Check.

SALARY
$1,434 - $2,295 a month. This is a 12 month position. State makes available to the employee: medical insurance, retirement (401K availability), annual leave, and sick leave.
